Ania Biczysko is a Polish born and educated artist living in Toronto. Her work encompasses sculpture in metal, as well as other media such as oil paint on plexiglass. Recently Ania has been exploring energy, expression and gesture through a variety of media. Every work represents a new interactive journey which reliably promises an interesting and exciting outcome.
“Intrigued by experimentation and novel approaches regarding the use of materials, I am fascinated with process and moved to create my own. My work effects a novel blurring of boundaries between colour and texture, abstraction and representation, sculpture and painting. I experiment with different techniques and materials to discover and reveal unexpected beauty.
In the series Force of Nature, I explore two media – large steel sculpture and oil paint on plexiglass. The connection between the two represents my interest in the interpretation of natural phenomena.
The Cloud sculptures have both a grounding and an uplifting feeling. The reversal of gravity emphasizes the lightness of form. They express a sense of light and ease despite their stainless steel construction. Some elements are recycled and the ribbons and patterns reflect various finishes. Clouds offer an opportunity to project our inner dreams and fantasies and are as a result compelling.
In contrast to the Cloud sculptures, the reverse paintings on plexiglass are an explosion of colour, a burst of energy, and flow of guided paint. Through this intuitive process this work brings me closer to a colourful vision of the universe,” Ania Biczysko.
