“Short Stories in Steel is an ongoing project, maturing for the last 22 years. Having worked in clay, wood and stone before, I was introduced to metal, after coming to Canada. Shortly after that I realized that steel is a classical material for the modern North America, as bone, stone and wood was for the ancient cultures, or clay, wax and bronze for the European sculpture.
On the foundation of my previous experience I started to develop the new visual language. Sometimes these forms emerge, looking very similar to sculptures modeled in clay or wax. This is a paradox and the side effect of my stubborn mind. I hope it brings to the world some interesting works. There are also pieces where properties of metal shine fully and material is not tortured. There is an aspect of the gesture art in my method. Any technique which helps the stories to be released is good,” Wojtek Biczysko.
